Tate Bowles
Designed by John Morgan Studio

We designed a display alphabet inspired by the set of roman and italic print alphabets printed by Carington Bowles in London in 1775, originally published for the use of signwriters and letter cutters. It is a sympathetic ‘British vernacular’ letterform for a British building displaying British Art. Variants of this letterform are cast in brass for external signs and silkscreened directly onto the interior gallery walls.

Caslon Egyptian
Designed by John Morgan Studio

We have developed our studio interpretation of William Caslon’s two-line Egyptian from 1816, arguably the first sans-serif printing type to be sold commercially. We have used variations on this type for signage and the study room at the John Soane’s Museum (with Caruso St John architects), signage at Café Royal (with David Chipperfield Architects) and as an identity for DRDH architects.
